About advanced digitization, renewal of Ukraine and prospects for the world – Mykhailo Fedorov

Security technologies are a powerful new trend and Ukraine can become # 1 in this direction and an example for the whole world.

A full-scale war revealed digital Ukraine to the world. We are fighting against one of the greatest armies in the world. Therefore, we are looking for solutions in technologies that will allow us to defeat the enemy as soon as possible. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov during his speech at the international economic forum.

Despite the martial law, the large-scale event gathered offline a wide range of participants from various spheres of influence and activity. There were owners and top managers of Ukrainian and international companies, representatives of central and local authorities, international organizations and financial funds and the media. Global digitization became one of the leading topics discussed by business leaders and state-makers.

Mykhailo Fedorov Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine

"Ukraine is now gaining the experience of waging a war that the world has not seen since World War II. However, in the new reality we use completely different tools to fight. During these 9 months, we learned to transform, combine, test and launch completely different technologies from different fields in the shortest possible time. Sometimes it takes not months, but days, from idea to implementation. After all, Ukraine needs really fast solutions"

The minister also outlined specific directions for the development and application of digital technologies during the war in Ukraine.

    1. Digitization of state services. The team of software developers of the Ministry of Digital Affairs quickly adapted all previous developments to the challenges of harsh military reality. As an example – services for IDPs. Registration at a new place of residence, business relocation, systematization and independent entry of owner data on damaged property in Diya.

    2. Cyber security and data protection of state institutions, strategic industries, and citizens. In 9 months of full-scale war, there has not been a single leak, all systems continue to work in harmony. Hostile hacker attacks are predicted and prevented.

    3. Restoration of communication in front-line zones and liberated territories thanks to technologies. Operators quickly restore communication in de-occupied settlements, despite constant rocket fire. Today, Ukraine is among the countries with the largest number of Starlink communication system terminals. There are more than 22,000 terminals operating within the country, which make it possible to use high-speed Internet under any conditions.

    4. Hyperactive development of military-tech. This is one of the priority directions, which after the victory will be of interest to the whole world and will also stand in defense of Ukraine in the future.

The minister also emphasized that it is important to formulate a clear plan and outline a vision for the reconstruction and renewal of Ukraine. War can and should be used as a chance for radical changes and reforms in all areas.

"Even before the start of a full-scale war, we set ourselves the goal of building the most convenient state from the point of view of obtaining state services. Now we have another goal in front of us — to build the most innovative defense system. We use technology to defeat the enemy and protect people. Gov-tech and military-tech are the main trends now. These are the directions in which Ukraine can become No. 1 in the world," Fedorov summarized.

Digitization and the use of the latest tools in the process of reconstruction and renewal are a strong and effective basis for the work of the Ukraine’s Renovation League.

The use of innovative services gives us the opportunity to facilitate the interaction of participants, the adoption of appropriate decisions, the attraction of financing and investments and, as a result, the rapid and effective reconstruction of the country's infrastructure and its modernization. Such a tool is the ONOVA GIS HUB update portal, created by Public Union "Ukrainian Fund of Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving" in cooperation with the company Esri (USA) and the public organization "Elektronic Ukraine", which is already effectively used by the League's partners.

We are digitizing, acting, renewal of Ukraine already today.
