State Enterprise "Olympic Training and Sports Center "Chernihiv"
Location
Before the beginning of the hostilities started by Russian occupiers, Desna Stadium in Chernihiv was one of the city landmarks.
Its history began in 1936 on the territory of the city garden.
Over the years, the stadium has been reconstructed several times, most recently in 2016-2017. The purpose of the reconstruction is to make the sports facility an Olympic training centre and to ensure certification in accordance with the requirements of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
In March 2022 as a result of shelling and airstrikes by Russian troops, a significant part of the stadium was destroyed in March 2022. Eight bombs were dropped on the territory of the stadium and nearbyt buildings, including three high-explosive 500-kg bombs.
Ukraine’s Renovation League ONOVA, together with the Chernihiv City Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has begun the reconstruction and renovation of the complex. A memorandum of cooperation was signed with the City Council and the State Enterprise "Olympic Training and Sports Center "Chernihiv".
All damage data is recorded in the ONOVA GIS HUB.
The report on the technical condition of the facilities is being prepared.
The development of a concept project for the renovation of the "Desna" sports complex with a complete reconstruction of the stadium in accordance with UEFA requirements has begun.
