The Chernihiv Regional State Administration
The Chernihiv Regional State Administration is a local executive authority and, within its powers, exercises executive power on the territory of the Chernihiv Region, and also exercises the powers delegated to it by the Regional Council.
The head of the regional state administration is Vyacheslav Chaus.
During martial law, he was appointed head of the Chernihiv military administration.
Chernihiv region on the map of Ukraine covers an area of 31,865 km² and is the third largest region among other regions of Ukraine.
The region is represented by 5 districts - Chernihiv, Nezhinsky, Prilutsky, Koryukovsky and Novgorod-Seversky. Further distribution of districts includes 57 united territorial communities.
The Chernihiv region has 16 cities and 29 urban-type settlements .
There are 45 settlements in total. The largest in terms of population is Chernihiv, 282,747 people according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine as of January 1, 2022.
The Chernihiv region is one of the oldest historical regions of Ukraine.
Since the 9th century, northerners lived on the modern territory of the region, at the same time Chernihiv region became part of the Kyiv state in the 11th century. The Chernigov principality was formed, and the city of Chernigov became an important political, cultural and economic center of Kievan Rus.
The Chernihiv region has an industrial-agrarian structure of the economy.
Occupying 5% of the territory, where 2.6% of the population of Ukraine lives, it provides almost 80% of the national production of woolen fabrics, 76% of wallpaper, 27% of chemical fibers and threads, 18% of oil production, the only production of cord fabric in Ukraine, fire engines , protein shell, piano, certain types of equipment for the agro-industrial complex
In the sectoral structure of the region, the food, fuel, machine-building, metalworking, woodworking, pulp and paper and light industries are priority. A prominent place is occupied by the electric power industry, the chemical and petrochemical industries. The chemical industry has become important in the region's economy. A number of industrial enterprises of the region are the main producers of Ukraine.
Also, the Chernihiv region has a significant agricultural potential and is one of the largest agriculturally developed regions of Ukraine.
This region is one of the few in Ukraine where significant recreational potential is concentrated. More than 20% of the territory is occupied by recreation areas. Their largest area is located in the Kozeletsky, Chernigov and Novgorod-Seversky districts. Favorable climatic conditions, diverse flora and fauna, the presence of 610 nature reserves make the territory of the region attractive for tourism development.
The region has a powerful educational structure and occupies one of the leading places in the development of sports and the training of Olympic-level athletes.
